About me
This is a life lived among the stars – introducing the author
In the early 2000’s, Bob Belber was the Director of Booking- US for SMG at that time. The largest facility management company in the world. He routed the Vince Gill & Amy Grant Christmas Tours in 19 cities in conjunction with CAA and the William Morris Agency. The US had just sent troops into Iraq and Bob arranged with the artists and their management to connect soldiers in Iraq with family members at the show in San Antonio via satellite. With the help of the US Army and satellite companies that donated the use of their satellites, the surprised families at the show and the connection with loved ones in Iraq – live on huge screens on stage with full audio was the best moment of Bob’s career. This interaction in San Antonio between mothers & children with their husbands and fathers in Iraq made every person in the arena tear up. The full concert and video communication was broadcast to 118 military bases around the world. Bob’s memoir highlights these touching moments.
In the late-60’s, Bob’s father steered his trawler close to shore near an area known as Ditch Plains in Montauk. The sun was just rising early in the morning. His father passed him a set of binoculars and said, “take a look at those people on the beach”. He said they are members of the Rolling Stones. I was amazed to see a group of men and women fully naked running around on the beach acting crazy. The band had rented a cottage on the beach in Ditch Plains. Roll forward in time to 2005 and Bob winds up backstage in the Rolling Stones dressing room with the Mayor of Albany (Jerry Jennings) giving the keys to the City of Albany to the band.
