Chapter 11: National Duties – Christmas to Remember
Amy then asked seven ladies by name to come up to the stage with their children. There were seven stools lined across the stage facing the audience, and each of the ladies sat in a stool with their children sitting on the stage in front of them. Amy proceeded to call the first lady by name, and she raised her hand. Amy said, “If you could have anything in the world for the holidays, what would you want?” The mother of three little children started to tear up, and she said, “I wish my husband could be home with us.” In an instant, a huge video screen that spanned across the back of the stage came alive, and there were seven US soldiers sitting in front of approximately 150 uniformed troops based in Iraq. The first lady’s husband on the video screen was zoomed in on, and he said, “Merry Christmas, honey.”
